Bobby Okereke lined up at wide receiver and linebacker for Foothill High School in Tustin, CA, showing the versatility and athleticism that will likely make him a fixture on the Cardinal defense before too long. Stanford coaches have stockpiled linebackers over the past few seasons, so Okereke will have the luxury of time to develop under the tutelage of the coaching staff and leadership of the upperclassmen, but there is no doubt that he will lead the next wave of great Stanford linebackers.
Rivals.com gives Okereke four stars and ranks him as the tenth-best outside linebacker in the nation, and their confidence is reflected in his offer list. Okereke sifted through sixteen scholarship offers, turning down advances from the likes of Cal, Oregon, USC, and Washington before committing to the Cardinal last month. Once he wins regular playing time, his speed will open eyes across the conference. While he isn't big enough to be a dedicated pass rusher from the outside edge, he certainly has the speed to wreak havoc as a blitzer and the athleticism to stick with any tight end in America in pass coverage.
Stanford has risen to national prominence on the strength of its defense, and the addition of Okereke helps to assure that nothing will change in that regard.
